Course Description

Because of high speed access requirements on the subscriber sites, we are at the edge of the copper days. Especially with new FTTx technologies; optical access networks are main investments on Telecom and service provider networks. Optical Networks installations and maintenance needs much more knowledge and hands on experience compared to copper networks. This course program concentrates on giving all necessary knowledge base and hands on practice for technicians, enginneer and administrator who will work on Optical Networks. It will explain how to use and maintain the instrument to obtain optimum results as quickly and efficiently as possible.

They will also learn to perform the measurements needed to install and maintain optical links.  The major aim of the workshop is to learn how to use the instrument to obtain optimum results as quickly and efficiently as possible.  Key features of the instruments are discussed.  Different types of fibers are measured and the interpretation of the results helps participants to gain insight into the physical back-ground and working principles of the instrument.

Course Objectives

  • Recognizing optical fiber structure
  • Explaining the purpose of optical fiber use
  • Understanding the Fiber Geometry (Multimode, Single Mode)
  • Providing essential skills and knowledge necessary to design, install, splice, connectorize and test fiber optic systems
  • Understanding and being acquainted with the measurement applications for installation and maintenance
  • Being able to recognize faults and interpreting measurement results
  • Carrying out acceptance tests or troubleshooting and to interpret the measurement results.
