Course Description
Those who represent the first line of care know that the first hours of treatment to a critically ill child have a significant impact on the outcome. This course focuses on the assessment and management of the critically ill child. Participants will learn the underpinning theory and management and practicing clinical skills which will help manage and improve outcomes for their patients. It gives them the opportunity to reflect on their current practice and apply in depth knowledge and understanding of anatomy, physiology and therapeutic care and management of the critically ill child and family.
Course Objectives
- Reviewing critical physiology of each core body system
- Evaluating assessment data, and implement a plan of care using evidence-based strategies specific to the acutely and critically ill child
- Demonstrating knowledge of common conditions experienced by acutely and critically ill pediatric patients
- Assessing the effectiveness of the plan of care for the acutely and critically ill pediatric patient
- Discussing etiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic findings and specific patient management of commonly seen critical care conditions
