Course Description

Most traditional and alternative medicines depend on medicinal plants to promote general health and well-being due to their various pharmacological effects. It has protective properties in disorders. This course aims to give the participants theoretical and practical knowledge about plant extraction, characterization, lyophilization, and determination with several antioxidant methods used for different purposes in the R&D laboratory.

Course Objectives

Introducing the concepts of plants
Describing the principles of extraction, characterization, lyophilization, and determination by antioxidant techniques
Analyzing plant extraction and determination techniques
Understanding the work of devices
Discussing the details of the practical experience about the taught methods

Preparation of samples and solvents
Introduction to Spectrophotometry device
Determination of the total antioxidant status, Phenolic and Flavonoid content by spectrophotometry
Calculation of the concentrations of plant extracts
Data analysis and troubleshooting

Day 4

Introduction to plants and their antioxidants II
Preparation of samples and solvents
Determination of the DPPH, CUPRAC content
Calculation of the concentrations of plant extracts
Data analysis and troubleshooting

Day 5

Introduction to HPLC
Preparation of samples and solvents
Determination of the antioxidants by HPLC device
Data analysis and troubleshooting
