Course Description

This course is an introduction to the study of medical terminology, the language of medicine, focusing on prefixes, suffixes, word roots and their combining forms by review of each body system and specialty area. The course will examine the components of a medical term and techniques for breaking down a medical term by simply knowing the meaning of the prefix or suffix. Topics such as word construction, usage and comprehension will also be covered. In addition, students gain information regarding anatomy and physiology, symptomatology, pathology, diagnostic/surgical procedures, pharmacology, and medical abbreviations.
