Course Description

Advanced Mechanical Engineering with Power Plant Technologies provides mechanical engineers with an in-depth technical understanding of advanced mechanical engineering topics relevant to the power generation industry. Participants will also develop generic skills that allows them to contribute effectively in developing company capabilities. It aims at providing participants with a thorough grounding and practical experience in the use of state-of-the-art techniques for the development of gas and wind turbine control systems; together with an understanding of the principles behind these techniques so that they can make sound engineering judgements during the design and deployment of such a system.

Course Objectives

  • Explain the main components, mechanical systems and the basic operation of wind and gas turbines
  • Test electrical components, mechanical and hydraulic systems to troubleshoot malfunctions
  • Maintain and repair central systems and components
  • Replace worn or malfunctioning components, monitor stock, and order spare parts
  • Explain risks and hazards associated with hydraulic work
