Course Description

This course is designed to provide an understanding of flow phenomena and pipeline optimization that can help participants avoid problems such as hydrates, corrosion or startup/shutdown issues. This ten days course will also address several critical problems in obtaining pipeline flow assurance.

  • Applying the fundamental principles of multiphase flow and production chemistry to analyse typical flow assurance systems.

  • Methodologies and software for flow assurance engineering
  • Prediction of fluid properties
  • Steady state fluid flow modelling – line sizing, characterisation of slugging
  • Transient fluid flow modelling – start-ups, shutdown and cooldown, change of flow rate, slugging
  • Detailed localised flow modelling using CFD

  • Asphaltene prediction, scale precipitation and sand production
  • Pigging operations
  • Leak detection methods and SCADA
  • Startup/shutdown issues

  • Pipeline optimization
  • Process of optimizing of a pipeline
