Course Description
The course will provide detailed information on the plant nutrition, soil fertility and fertilizer management of the essential plant macro and micronutrients. The influence of numerous soil biological, physical and chemical properties on plant nutrient availability to crops will be emphasized. The participant will be familiar with the management of nutrients for optimum productivity and minimum impact on the environment. The aim of this course is to establish a thorough understanding of plant nutrition, soil fertility and fertilizer management in each participant so that he can describe soil and plant nutrient relationships and identify plant nutrition soil fertility problems and recommend proper corrective action.

- Identifying/describing plant nutrient deficiency symptoms in several major crops
- Discriminating fertilizer and soil amendment materials on the basis of content, use and effects on both the soil and the crop
- Calculating, using basic chemical principles, rates of fertilizers and amendments
- Describing nutrient response patterns, fertilizer use efficiency, and economics related to fertilizer use
