Course Description

This course is designed to provide participants with a detailed and up-to-date overview of the procedures for welding of hot tapping equipment containing flammables in accordance with API 2201. It covers the pipeline hot tapping including hazards, risks and job analysis; the recommended practices for safe hot tapping in petroleum and petrochemical industries; the hot tapping checklist and the typical applications of a hot tap; the economic and environmental benefits of hot- tapping; and the hazard evaluation and risk reduction for hot tapping on in-service equipment.

During this interactive course, participants will be able to learn the welding and hot tap metallurgy considerations, hot tapping machines and current technology; the written plans, management of change and personnel competency and qualifications; the special conditions on hot tapping; the welding on tanks or vessels, floating roof tanks, lined piping, lined equipment or cased lines, piping and upstream of equipment and valves; the hot tapping operations and hot-tapping procedures; the tapping machine and line stop (plugging); and the proper procedure for line stopping.
