Course Description

This course provides an understanding of Directional Drilling (DD) processes and techniques, tailored for professionals working closely with drilling departments. It covers the fundamentals, calculations, and practical applications essential for effective directional drilling. Participants will learn to interpret directional survey data, plan and execute well trajectories, and understand the working principles of Measurement While Drilling (MWD) tools and rotary steerable systems. The course also explores wellbore stability, drilling mechanics, and the use of Geosteering and drilling software for optimization.

Course Objectives

  • Describe the various systems of coordinates
  • List the various methods of calculating a directional survey
  • Explain what preliminary information for the directional well is needed from the client
  • Describe the effect on maximum angle of changing the KOP
  • Describe the four most common types of directional well profile

Who Should Attend?
