Course Description

This course provides an introduction to petroleum geology, designed specifically for non-geologists working in the oil and gas sector. Participants will learn about geological principles, reservoir formation, drilling processes, and well operations. The course also covers subsurface modeling, geological data interpretation, and the significance of petroleum geology in the upstream oil and gas industry. Additionally, it helps bridge the communication gap between geoscientists and other professionals, ensuring better collaboration and decision-making.

Course Objectives

  • Recognize the structure of the Earth and its role in petroleum systems.
  • Identify the different rock types, their formation, and relevance to oil and gas reservoirs.
  • Understand how petroleum is generated, trapped, and extracted.
  • Gain insights into drilling, well completion, and reservoir management.
  • Learn about well logging, formation evaluation, and production enhancement techniques.
  • Understand the impact of drilling practices on reservoir productivity.
  • Become familiar with petroleum geology terminology for effective communication with geoscientists.
